Meet the Staff

Susie Chapman - Technical Support Analyst
Greetings from the planet Venus! I am Susie
Chapman and have just started my adventure with the Technical Support
Department as the newest Technical Support Analyst. I have been with IMR
for 2 years and have been the Technical Instructor until this month. I
have been in training for the last 6 years, including a 2 year stint as a
substitute teacher, which cured me of wanting to be a high school
teacher. I have three cats, a dog and two kids, ages 20 and 22. My
husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this year
(and we are still talking to each other!). I like to ski, watch the
Broncos, and I enjoy remodeling projects around the house.

Tips & Tricks
Building An Alchemy Database to CD
Alchemy is a very versatile product and allows
you to build to multiple locations, including building to CD. Our
customers use a couple of techniques when building to CD. You can build
your database directly to CD by using the CD Recorder option in Alchemy,
you can use your CD Writer Software to copy your database to a CD from
your hard drive, and you can also build to an ISO Image on the hard drive
to build to a CD.

If your database spans more than one CD, the
last CD contains the indexes and should be inserted into the CD reader
FIRST in order to access the entire database. If you have 5 CDs, CD
Number 5 should be inserted first. If you continue adding information to
your database and build your database again, you will create a new LAST
CD, which is should be loaded in the CD player first to access the entire
database.
When burning a full cd's worth of data, you
should change the default setting for the Buffer size to a maximum of
500-550 MB to save space on the CD for index files and also to avoid
Buffer Errors. It is also a good idea to select the "Copy files to data
containers" option and the "Compress data containers" option when building
to cd.

For more information on building to cd, please
see the users guide in the documentation folder on your Alchemy
Installation CD, or use the help function within Alchemy Build.
Firewalls
What is a Firewall
A firewall is a method for keeping a network
secure from intruders. It can be a single router that filters out unwanted
packets or may comprise a combination of routers and servers each
performing some type of firewall processing. Firewalls are widely used to
give users secure access to the Internet as well as to separate a
company's public Web server from its internal network. Firewalls are also
used to keep internal network segments secure; for example, the accounting
network might be vulnerable to snooping from within the enterprise.
Firewalls installed to protect entire networks
are typically implemented in hardware; however, software firewalls are
also available to protect individual workstations from attack.
Firewall Placement
An organization's public Web sites reside
outside the firewall, but intranet servers and all internal computing
resources are inside the firewall.

AMP support for past Alchemy releases
IMR offers technical support to customers who
purchase Annual Maintenance Program (AMP) for their Alchemy Products. This
program provides telephone and email assistance for questions about
product usage as well as access to product fixes, an electronic knowledge
base and free copies of new Alchemy releases.
The AMP offering is designed to provide for
support on the last two Alchemy releases when the products are installed
on computers with at least the minimum recommended configuration. This
means IMR will provide detailed analysis into customer questions for the
last two major versions of the product. The Alchemy version numbering
system is designed with 3 elements in the following pattern. MM.XX.YY
where MM is the major release number, XX is the minor release number and
YY is the patch level. IMR shipped version 7.3.1 in July 2002. This is
major release 7, minor release 3 and patch level 1. As of July 2002, IMR
technical support is prepared to address customer questions on all major
release 6 and 7 versions operating in ‘live’ customer environments. A best
efforts support process is used to address questions about versions prior
to version 6.
When patches are developed for the Alchemy
product, they will generally be made available for the most recent release
of the product. These patches and upgrades are made available free of
charge to customers on AMP contracts, but it may require the customer to
upgrade from the version they are currently running on to the most recent
patch version that contains the fix. AMP does not extend to custom
components developed and installed by non IMR entities.

policy, please contact your IMR Alchemy reseller or IMR Sales
Representative.
