Product Updates
MailStore
Our thanks to the product ‘pioneers’ exploring MailStore. We have fixes for a few problems that have been found:
- After installing and configuring the Client in Outlook, only a ‘red x’ appears in the viewer. This requires a view control update from Microsoft which can be found at: http://www.office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/outlctlx.aspx
- When archiving a folder or selected items, the archive stops without completing. A personal archive will be unbuilt.
- The e-mail body is not displaying in the Archive database.
Please contact Support for a patch.
Meet the Staff
Jason Klinger - Technical Support Analyst

Howdy. I am Jason “boomerang” Klinger with the IMR Technical Support Team. I have been with IMR off an on for the last four years. I enjoy working with the wonderful customers that IMR has and the challenges that they can come up with.
I have been in the technical arena for about 6 years now. Previously working at Nextel Communications. Before getting technical about things, I worked as a Sign Language Interpreter for one the local school districts.
When I am not working, you can find me at home with my wife and three boys. Working around the house, raising chickens and a family keeps me pretty busy. When I have time, I also enjoy collecting sports memorabilia.

Tips & Tricks
Exporting profile fields
The Profile Field option in the Retrieve command can be used to create an ASCII text file of index information.
- Open the Retrieve Files dialog, and select ‘Profiles’ in ‘What do you wish to Retrieve’
- Go to the Profile Options Tab
- Enter a path and file name for your ASCII file. Alchemy will put a .dat extension on a file name without an extension. You can enter an extension or change .dat to .txt.
- Move the desired profile fields to the ‘Fields to Retrieve’
- Select the format you want and press OK
This can be done without DataGrabber installed and works for built and unbuilt files.
Enabling Integrated Security with Alchemy 7.3.x
With the release of Alchemy Server 7.3 and 7.3.1, you can integrate Windows NT security with Alchemy database security through the Alchemy Server console. Integrated Security helps streamline database security by using Windows NT permissions to determine access to databases or parts of databases.
Overview of Setting Up Integrated Security
Within the Alchemy Server console, you will first create roles. The roles are similar to security groups within Windows security. Roles are used to provide more granular access to the databases. Each role will contain at least one Windows NT user or user group, and at least one database.
After the roles have been defined, you then assign users or groups to the role. The user/group can be either local or domain. For example, you want to assign the NT Group called AP to the Accounting database. The users in the AP group should have permissions to the database. By assigning the AP group to the role within Alchemy, you are granting those users belonging to the AP group access to the database. The permission level within NT will dictate what those users can do with the database. For example, if the users within AP group only have READ permission, they will open the database in Read-only mode.
After you add the users to the role, you will then add the databases that those users can access. You can give the users complete access to the database, or you can specify certain folders the users can access.
It’s good practice to stop and restart the Alchemy Server Service after changes or updates are made to the roles.
For detailed information on setting up Integrated Security, please see your Alchemy Server Administrator Guide.
User Roles
Each user that will be accessing Alchemy will need to be set up within one of the roles, including the local Administrator or Domain Administrator.
For example, you log on a PC as the local administrator to troubleshoot a problem with Alchemy. If the local administrator has not been set up in one of the roles, you will not be able to open Alchemy. When you attempt to launch Alchemy will get the error, “Unable to get Alchemy Build License from Alchemy Server.”
Log on to the PC as the user that was set up within a role, or add the administrator to a role.
Alchemy 7.2 Clients and AWS
If you enable Integrated Security, Alchemy 7.2 Build and Search clients will not be able to access the databases under control of Alchemy Server. Either disable Integrated Security or upgrade the 7.2 clients to 7.3.x.
Likewise, if you have Integrated Security enabled, users accessing databases through Alchemy Web Server will not be able to open the databases. You will need to disable Integrated Security, or copy the databases to an alternate location for access by web users. IMR plans to allow Alchemy Server integration with the web users with the release of our new product in the near future.
